    PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT - NEUROSURGERY AND ORTHOPEDICS

    LOCATION:  BRIDGEPORT HOSPITAL

    Physician assistant will participate in emergent, operative, inpatient and outpatient care of all patients managed by neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons at Bridgeport Hospital.

    Responsibilities

    • A neurosurgery physician assistant works together with a neurosurgeon to treat patients with neurological conditions, which require surgery. A physician assistant in neurosurgery may take medical histories and perform physical exams. They may also review diagnostic tests, such as CT scans, MRI's and blood work.
    • 1. Manages inpatient and outpatient (ED and Clinic) orthopedic and neurosurgery patients.
    • 2. Assists in pre-operative ,operative and post operative care of all neurosurgeons at Bridgeport Hospital.
    • 3. Participates in night and weekend coverage as approved by Dept. Chair.
    • 4. Contributes to patient satisfaction with Physician services to remain at or above 50% for the orthopedic surgeons.
    • 5. Maintains employee satisfaction with surgical services at or above 60%

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION

     

    PA-C with extra training or experience in orthopedic & neurosurgery

     

    EXPERIENCE

     

    Minimum two years experience working in hospital or orthopedic office set up.

     

    SPECIAL SKILLS

     

    Ability to evaluate , initiate treatment and communicate with orthopedic surgeon emergent care issues related to orthopedic patients

     

    PHYSICAL DEMAND

     

    MMR is required. Varivax (chicken pox vaccine) or evidence of prior chicken pox is required. Hepatitis B (or signed declination) is required for those with potential exposure to blood/body fluids. Tdap and influenza vaccination are strongly encouraged. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds. The specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Incumbents as well as external and internal applicants who become disabled must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a case by case basis.
