    Supervises support personnel in specimen processing, specimen distribution, and reporting of test results. Oversees regulatory compliance in laboratory ambulatory settings and supervises employees in the draw stations. Works with system and hospital leadership to expand ambulatory settings Oversees the performance of laboratory procedures in the absence of the Director.     Responsibilities

    • 1. Provides staff with professional and administrative supervision.
      • 1.1 Assigns work flow appropriately based on departmental needs as observed by Director and feedback from clinical chief.
    • 2. Supervises the management of the department.
      • 2.1 Establishes and enforces technical and administrative policies and procedures per professional and hospital standards as observed by Director.
    • 3. Controls all result reporting activity.
      • 3.1 Oversees the generation of all reports as observed by supervisor.
    • 4. Supports the Quality Assurance Program.
      • 4.1 Establishes and quantifies departmental quality assurance monitors as periodically reviewed by Director.
    • 5. Plans and/or implements care for assigned patients.
      • 5.1 Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages from adolescence to old age and applies knowledge of developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the adult patient as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff.
    • 6. Supports continuing education and the Med. Tech. School.
      • 6.1 Develops, prepares, and oversees lectures as observed by Director.
    • 7. Plans for supply purchases and instrument maintenance.
      • 7.1 Assures adequate supply inventories are maintained as observed by Director and clinical chief.
    • 8. Supervises all problem solving activity.
      • 8.1 Works directly with clinician to resolve issues as required as observed by Director and based on feedback from clinician.
    • 9. Plans for future enhancements to departmental procedures and operations.
      • 9.1 Reviews current literature for new methods and state-of-the-art techniques and makes recommendations to implement new tests, procedures, or methodologies as noted in periodic reports to Director and/or clinician.
    • 10. Fosters professionalism and demonstrates flexibility both inside and outside the department.
      • 10.1 Adapts appropriately to a changing hospital and regulatory environments as observed by Director.
    • 11. Maintains a high level of safety within the department.
      • 11.1 Enforces safety regulations according to established safety standards as indicated by supervisory observation.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION


    *MS or BS in biology, chemistry or Clinical Laboratory science .


    EXPERIENCE


    Registered laboratory professional with at least six years of full time experience.


    LICENSURE


    MT or MLS certification required


    SPECIAL SKILLS


    Proven ability to provide leadership to multi-level groups, Demonstrated knowledge of all laboratory support functions, Meets all CLIA "88 standards for General Supervisor. In Depth knowledge of Beaker and Epic workflows


    PHYSICAL DEMAND


    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ajnd ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed totoxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee is able to drive to other locations to round and set up new stations.
