    This Manager will work directly with the pharmacy staff and provide oversight of daily pharmacy operations within Bridgeport Hospital assuring that drug distribution, workflow and patient care activities occur in an accurate and timely manner. The manager will assist with the ongoing development of pharmacy technician programs, and will have responsibility for the development and motivation of staff assuring timely resolution of personnel issues, ongoing communication of performance expectations and the completion of performance reviews. The manager will be expected to participate and lead projects that support the pharmacy operations committee and pharmacy practice advancement across YNHHS.

    Responsibilities

    • 1. Conducts performance appraisals for Staff Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
      • 1.1 Processes all performance appraisals on or before due date as documented by appraisal forms and employeefeedback.
    • 2. Ensures department inpatient distribution services are consistent with patient care needs.
      • 2.1 Evaluates the scope of inpatient distribution periodically as observed by supervisor.
    • 3. Processes timecards.
      • 3.1 Ensures that timecards are processed as observed by supervisor and feedback from employees and Payroll.
    • 4. Participates in departmental and medical staff QA activities as they relate to the inpatient distribution service.
      • 4.1 Documents QA activity as requested by Pharmacy administration as evidenced by completed documents andsupervisor feedback.
    • 5. Oversees the day-to-day activity of the inpatient distributive service.
      • 5.1 Ensures adequate staffing levels for the inpatient distributive service as documented by the daily assignment sheets, supervisor observation and feedback from staff.
    • 6. Provides in-service education.
      • 6.1 Provides in-service education to pharmacy staff, nurses, physicians and other departments as requested and observed by department managers.
    • 7. Maintains professional consistency through continuing education.
      • 7.1 Maintains approved continuing education credits as required by state law as evidenced by copies of continuing education certificates.
    • 8. Coordinates scheduling for pharmacists and technical staff.
      • 8.1 Ensures monthly schedules are complete two weeks before end of month as observed by supervisor and documented by posted schedules.
    • 9. Maintains active patient care practice.
      • 9.1 Functions competently in a staff pharmacist capacity as documented by assignment sheets and observed by supervisor.
    • 10. Participates in interview process of technicians, staff pharmacists, and management applicants.
      • 10.1 Interviews applicants as requested by pharmacy administration as observed by supervisor.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION

     

    Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.  The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy and CT pharmacist licensure eligible. Prior supervisory or comparable work experience is preferred. The manager will be expected to participate in ongoing management development programs.

     

    EXPERIENCE

     

    Three years experience in an institutional pharmacy setting with management responsibilities.

     

    LICENSURE

     

    Eligible for licensure in Connecticut.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
